States' funds for local afterschool and summer programs are being withheld.

RELEASE THE FUNDS

Your state’s funding is being withheld for this year’s summer and afterschool programs. 1.4 million youth across the nation could lose their programs.

Afterschool and summer programs keep kids safe, inspire learning, and help working families. Withholding states’ 21st Century Community Learning Center (21st CCLC) funding has put 10,000 local programs at risk of closing.

Read the Afterschool Alliance’s blog and statement on this developing situation. Use the What You Need to Know summary to help you communicate about this issue.

The 21st CCLC funds being withheld are not the only funds being withheld. Nearly $7 billion in approved federal funding has not been released for the coming 2025-26 school year. *The FY25 funding signed into law by the President in March and the FY26 budget proposal being debated by Congress now are both separate and largely unrelated to the One Big Beautiful Bill Act/Budget Reconciliation process.
