Postcards
Parents are particularly strong messengers to write postcards to policymakers; consider how you can encourage parents to share their messages of support. Host a family engagement night or keep a stack of postcards by your pick-up and drop-off station, and ask parents and guardians to write a few lines about why afterschool matters to them.
On Canva, you can edit postcard text and images, and download designs. Then send to your local printer for paper copies; be sure to make three copies per sender, so you can send one to each of your senators and your representative in Congress!
A cost-effective alternative is to download our PDF, which contains two pages with the postcard design and the area to write in a message. Simply print a double-sided copy and cut the page in half width-wise to produce two postcards!
We recommend mailing or dropping postcards off to your Congressperson's local district office. To find local offices, visit Congress.gov, search for your members of Congress, and click "Contact" to be directed to their individual websites and their lists of office locations.

Petition

Download and print this petition and gather signatures of afterschool supporters at events, booths, and conferences. If you're a program, keep the petition at your pick-up/drop-off station and have it on hand for parent nights or performances.
When you've filled out a few pages with supporters, make photocopies of the petition and mail them to your members of Congress!
